Digicel eSIM in Martinique: what to check

Digicel eSIM in Martinique: what to check

Digicel eSIM in Martinique: availability, setup and travel guide

If you are travelling to Martinique and considering a Digicel eSIM, first confirm that Digicel can issue the type of line you need. Digicel’s published service terms describe eSIM issuance on request for a customer with a compatible phone. Its current Martinique prepaid page lists prepaid options but does not clearly confirm that a visitor can obtain those options as eSIM. Ask whether eSIM is currently available for a new customer, whether prepaid lines qualify, and what registration requirements apply.

Martinique is a Caribbean island and an overseas department and region of France. It is also an outermost region of the European Union, so it is part of the French and EU framework while geographically distant from mainland Europe. Do not assume that a plan labelled France or Europe includes Martinique on the same terms as mainland France. Check the provider’s destination list and local-network conditions. Insee and the European Commission describe Martinique’s territorial status; checked 18 October 2026.

This guide explains what the public information establishes, what remains uncertain, and how to prepare for connectivity on the island. It does not list Digicel plan names, prices, data allowances, validity periods or other plan parameters. Digicel and Kaspersky eSIM Store are independent services; Kaspersky eSIM Store is not affiliated with Digicel.

What is confirmed about Digicel eSIM in Martinique?

Digicel has a local consumer presence in Martinique. Its official website includes Martinique in the coverage-map section, lists customer locations on the island and has a Martinique prepaid recharge page. Digicel’s public general service terms also address eSIM: the terms say that an eSIM can be supplied, represented by a ticket with an activation QR code, at the request of a customer with a compatible phone. That document was effective 1 February 2024. It confirms that Digicel has documented eSIM issuance for a customer line, but does not establish today’s eligibility for visitors, new prepaid customers or a particular handset.

The current prepaid page describes prepaid services but does not clearly state that a tourist can open a prepaid account using eSIM. Nor did the public material reviewed confirm a dedicated tourist eSIM product for Martinique. Treat eSIM support, prepaid availability and visitor eligibility as three separate checks. Before relying on a digital SIM for arrival, contact Digicel through its official support channel or a local store and ask for confirmation that applies to your account type.

Question What public information supports What to confirm
Does Digicel serve Martinique? Its local site lists mobile information, stores and Martinique coverage maps. Which services and sales channels accept visitors.
Is eSIM described in Digicel terms? Yes. The terms effective 1 February 2024 describe an eSIM issued on request to a customer with a compatible phone. Whether that process is current and applies to your line type.
Is prepaid service listed? The live Martinique prepaid page describes prepaid recharges. Whether a new prepaid line can be issued as eSIM and what registration it requires.
Can a short-stay tourist get an eSIM? The reviewed public pages do not clearly confirm this. Documents, local address or number requirements, timing and remote or in-store activation.

“eSIM available” can refer to replacing an existing SIM, opening a new postpaid line, getting a prepaid number, or buying a travel product that provides data only. Ask which situation the answer covers. If eSIM is available only to existing customers or a particular account type, that does not mean a visitor can sign up for the same service. Ask whether you need an active Digicel account first and whether a QR code can be issued before arrival.

Digicel’s local offer and its place in a trip

Digicel’s Martinique website presents prepaid recharge services and postpaid mobile service, with local stores and customer support. Its prepaid page also includes a travel-related section for customers. These are local operator services governed by Digicel’s registration, account and use conditions. A travel-related offer for existing customers is not the same thing as a tourist eSIM, and the page does not establish that a visitor can remotely open a prepaid eSIM line.

Digicel’s Martinique prepaid page provides the route to recharge and points users to local stores. Its current new-customer flow mentions an identity document or passport and proof of address. Confirm whether that checklist applies to a prepaid visitor purchase; do not assume it applies identically to every customer type. The pages were checked 18 October 2026. Ask the operator which documents to bring before going to a store, especially if you do not live in Martinique.

A local Digicel line may suit someone who needs a local number, expects to stay longer, wants operator support in person, or needs services that a data-only travel eSIM does not provide. A travel eSIM may suit someone who mainly needs mobile data and wants to prepare before departure. These options serve different needs; the practical choice depends on eligibility, places visited, activation timing and whether voice and SMS matter.

Before choosing a local line, clarify whether it includes a local number, how top-ups and renewal work, what inactivity rules apply after you leave, and whether usage outside the local area counts as roaming. Ask separately about each island on a multi-stop itinerary. Domestic allowances and roaming rules are not interchangeable. Current terms can change, so get the details from Digicel directly.

Coverage and mobile technology

Digicel publishes theoretical network maps for Martinique. The page checked 18 October 2026 labels Martinique map layers for 3G and 4G and identifies them as second-quarter 2026 maps. Digicel says the maps are based on simulation and are indicative, not contractual. A map can help you check an area, but cannot guarantee indoor reception, service inside a hotel, uninterrupted signal on a road or performance at a particular time. Terrain, buildings, device capability, network load and temporary incidents can affect service.

France’s telecom regulator Arcep offers department-level coverage resources and information about its “Mon réseau mobile” tools. Its current consumer information records that Digicel’s 2G network in Martinique shut down effective 2 June 2025; its table does not announce a Digicel 3G shutdown date. Check that your phone and any voice-dependent service do not rely on 2G. The Digicel Martinique map page reviewed here presents 3G and 4G layers and does not establish a 5G offer for this destination. These facts describe the available public sources, not a guarantee of service at every location. Digicel’s map page and Arcep’s shutdown information were checked 18 October 2026.

Coverage maps can use different methods and dates. Digicel calls its maps theoretical, while Arcep distinguishes theoretical coverage from measured quality information. Check the areas around your accommodation, airport, ferry or cruise port, and planned day trips. If you will travel outside built-up areas, save directions and bookings for offline use and have a backup way to contact your accommodation.

An eSIM-compatible phone is not automatically guaranteed to register on a particular local network. Confirm that the exact device variant supports eSIM, is unlocked where needed, and is compatible with the technologies and bands of the service you choose. Do not rely only on a retail model name: phones with the same name can vary by market. If calls matter, ask whether your device and the operator’s current service support the calling method you need.

What to ask Digicel before travel

Contact Digicel through its official Martinique support channel or a listed local customer location. Explain whether you are a visitor, the line type you want (new prepaid, existing-line replacement or postpaid), your phone’s full model identifier and region of purchase, and whether you need data only or a local number, calls and SMS. Ask whether your customer type can get eSIM now, which identity or address documents are required, and whether activation can happen before arrival.

Confirm the current installation and recovery procedure: whether the profile arrives as a QR code, if it can be installed only once, how to restore it after a reset or phone replacement, and whom to contact if it fails. Digicel’s public terms effective 1 February 2024 describe a QR-code ticket for a compatible phone, but are not a current step-by-step guide. Verify the procedure directly. If prepaid visitor eSIM cannot be confirmed before departure, prepare another data option or ask whether a physical SIM is available to you. Do not rely on a general statement that Digicel supports eSIM as proof that your line qualifies.

Local operator service or travel eSIM?

A local operator line and a travel eSIM can overlap, but may not provide the same service. A Digicel line may include a local number and account services, subject to eligibility and registration. A travel eSIM is often selected for data in a destination or region; network, coverage, voice and SMS features depend on its specific terms. Do not assume that a travel eSIM uses Digicel’s network just because Martinique is the destination.

Your priority Check before choosing
Local number Can a visitor register for one? Does the travel eSIM include a number or provide data only?
Data after landing Can you install the profile before travel? When does service begin?
In-person support Is there a Digicel location near your arrival point, and which documents are needed?
Multi-island trip Which exact destinations are included, and how is roaming handled?
Keep your usual number Can your phone keep one line for calls while the eSIM handles data? What charges may apply?

Kaspersky eSIM Store is an app and website that helps travellers choose, purchase and activate an eSIM with a mobile-data plan for a trip abroad. It is not an operator, network owner or provider of mobile internet. It does not replace a local number or guarantee which network a travel product uses. You can check eSIM options for Martinique and review the destination and terms shown at purchase. Availability and product details can change.

For a Kaspersky eSIM Store option, Kaspersky’s official travel-eSIM guide (17 June 2025) describes data-only service without voice calls. Check the current product terms for number, SMS, activation, start time and any roaming setting. Messaging apps require working data.

Check compatibility for your exact phone

Before paying, check the manufacturer’s information for the exact model number and regional variant. Look for an EID or an option to add an eSIM in mobile-network settings, then confirm compatibility with the issuer. A device family name alone is not enough: regional versions can differ, and a carrier lock can prevent another profile from working.

Check that your phone supports eSIM in that variant, is unlocked where required, supports the service’s network technologies, has an internet connection for profile download, and can select which line handles data. Retain the activation instructions and support details. For generic setup, open cellular or mobile-network settings, choose “add eSIM” or “add mobile plan,” then scan the QR code or enter the details supplied by the issuer. Menu names vary, so follow Digicel’s current instructions for a local profile. Do not use unofficial QR codes or delete an installed profile unless the issuer explains how to restore it.

After installation, label the lines clearly and select the intended line for mobile data. Enable data roaming only on the line whose issuer requires it; check that the home SIM has not also been set to roam. If there is no service, confirm the profile is active, the correct data line is selected and airplane mode is off, then follow the issuer’s instructions.

For Kaspersky eSIM Store, use its device compatibility check and verify the exact model before checkout. Compatibility with a travel eSIM does not establish compatibility with Digicel’s profile, so confirm that separately with Digicel.

A practical setup plan

Before departure

  1. Decide whether you need data only or also a local number, voice and SMS.
  2. Check the exact phone variant, carrier lock and eSIM support.
  3. Confirm that Martinique is explicitly included in the service you plan to use.
  4. Ask Digicel about visitor eligibility and required documents; for a travel eSIM, check when service begins and whether setup can happen before departure.
  5. Save activation instructions, support details, accommodation information and offline directions.

On arrival

Connect to Wi-Fi if you still need to download a profile. Add the eSIM using the issuer’s instructions, complete any required registration, select the intended line for mobile data and enable roaming only if that issuer requires it. Test a basic website or map before relying on the connection. If it does not connect, check the active profile, selected line and settings, then contact the issuer.

For travel to another Caribbean island, treat each territory as a separate destination check. “Caribbean” does not necessarily include every island or network. Check eligibility and roaming before moving on, and download travel documents and maps in advance.

Common problems and practical checks

  • The phone supports eSIM, but Digicel will not issue one: device support and account eligibility are separate. Ask whether the restriction concerns prepaid, new customers or visitors; consider a physical SIM if eligible or a travel eSIM for data.
  • The QR code fails or the profile has no data: confirm the code is complete and unused, the profile is active, and the correct line is selected for data. Follow the issuer’s instructions for roaming or network selection. Ask before deleting a profile because reinstallation may be restricted.
  • Data works but calls do not: the eSIM may be data-only, or voice may require a local number or supported feature. Confirm this before purchase.
  • Reception is weak indoors or outside a town: Digicel describes its maps as theoretical and indicative. Check for a network incident, try another location and use Wi-Fi where appropriate.
  • The home SIM shows a roaming prompt: check the selected data line and your home carrier’s roaming conditions before travel.

Frequently asked questions

Does Digicel offer eSIM in Martinique?

Digicel’s published customer-service terms effective 1 February 2024 describe an eSIM issued on request to a customer with a compatible phone. The current public prepaid page does not clearly confirm that a visitor can obtain a new prepaid eSIM. Ask Digicel whether eSIM is currently available for your line type and what registration rules apply.

Can a tourist buy a Digicel prepaid eSIM before arrival?

The public information reviewed for this guide does not confirm that. Digicel lists prepaid services for Martinique, but its page does not clearly explain remote issue of a prepaid eSIM to a short-stay visitor. Ask about eligibility, documents, QR-code delivery and activation timing. If you cannot confirm it, prepare a backup for data.

Does Martinique count as France for mobile plans?

Martinique is part of the French Republic and is an EU outermost region, but it is in the Caribbean, not mainland Europe. That status does not guarantee that a French or European plan treats Martinique like mainland France. Check the destinations and conditions of your specific service.

Will a Digicel eSIM work on any eSIM phone?

No. The exact regional variant must support eSIM, the phone must be unlocked where required, and it must meet Digicel’s current compatibility rules. Check the model identifier with the manufacturer and confirm with Digicel before requesting a profile.

Can I keep my usual number while using a travel eSIM?

Many dual-SIM phones let you keep one line for calls or messages and select another for data, but behavior varies by phone and carrier. Check your device instructions and home-carrier roaming terms, then confirm which line handles mobile data.

Final checklist

Confirm whether you need a local number or data only; whether Digicel has verified eSIM eligibility for your line type; that Martinique is included; that your exact phone is compatible and unlocked; and which documents, activation steps and roaming settings apply.

If Digicel confirms its local eSIM suits your account, follow its current instructions. If visitor or prepaid eligibility remains unclear, the older service-terms wording is not a guarantee. A travel eSIM is another option when your main need is data and its destination and terms fit. Keep essential travel information available offline.

Kaspersky eSIM Store can help you review eSIM options for Martinique for travel data. It is a separate app and website for choosing, purchasing and activating an eSIM with a mobile-data plan for a trip abroad; it is not a network operator and does not provide mobile service itself.
