Føroya Tele eSIM in the Faroe Islands: visitor guide

Føroya Tele eSIM in the Faroe Islands: what visitors should know
If you are travelling to the Faroe Islands, an eSIM can mean two different things: a digital SIM profile from a local provider, or a travel eSIM arranged for mobile data abroad. Føroya Tele offers eSIM for smartphones as part of its local mobile service. Its public information explains where customers can request one, but it does not establish that every visitor can sign up remotely or that every visitor offer is available as an eSIM. Check eligibility and the current process directly with Føroya Tele before relying on a local eSIM for your trip.
This guide explains what the operator confirms, what a visitor should check, and how to prepare a phone for mobile service around the islands. It keeps the local operator’s eSIM separate from a travel eSIM: the two can serve different needs, and their terms, numbers, service features and activation processes are not interchangeable.
What “Faroe Islands” means for mobile service
The Faroe Islands are an archipelago and a distinct jurisdiction with internal and external autonomy within the Realm of the Kingdom of Denmark. They are not simply another name for Denmark. The Government of the Faroe Islands describes their constitutional status and jurisdiction separately from Denmark’s general arrangements. That distinction matters when you check a roaming list, a destination selector or the geographical scope of a mobile offer: do not assume that an offer naming Denmark also covers the Faroe Islands. Confirm the destination by its own name with the operator or service you intend to use.
Føroya Tele is a Faroese telecommunications provider with local mobile services. It is one of the providers operating in this market, not a generic label for every connection in the islands. Its network information says that it owns and operates the shared radio access network used with another local provider, while each provider retains its own core network and customer services. For a visitor, this means that the radio infrastructure and the retail service are related but not identical questions: coverage infrastructure does not by itself confirm which eSIM profiles, customer plans or roaming arrangements are available to you.
The constitutional description above comes from the Government of the Faroe Islands’ “Constitutional Status” page, checked on 16 October 2026. The operator and network arrangement is described on Føroya Tele’s pages about its mobile network and radio access, also checked on 16 October 2026.
Does Føroya Tele offer eSIM?
Yes. Føroya Tele’s consumer eSIM page says that it offers eSIM for smartphones. It describes eSIM as a SIM profile built into a compatible phone and says that it can be used instead of a physical SIM or alongside one. The operator’s page directs customers to request eSIM after signing in to Mítt FT, and says it can also be requested at a Telebúðin store. This confirms a local eSIM service, but it should not be read as a promise that a visitor without an existing account can complete the same online process.
The page is aimed at the operator’s consumer service and does not set out a complete visitor onboarding guide in English. Before travelling, ask Føroya Tele whether a new customer who is visiting can open service, which identification or account details are needed, whether the request must be completed in person, and what language support is available. Ask how the eSIM profile is delivered and installed, too. The public page gives the request channels but does not describe every possible verification or activation step for every customer type.
The operator also publishes a visitor-facing prepaid mobile offer on its home page. That confirms that a prepaid option for visitors is advertised; it does not by itself confirm that the visitor offer is issued as an eSIM. The public prepaid reference and the consumer eSIM page are separate pieces of information. Do not assume they combine into a prepaid eSIM product unless Føroya Tele confirms this directly. If having an eSIM is essential, ask specifically about eSIM availability for a new visitor and whether it can be activated before arrival.
Føroya Tele has also published a notice asking some existing customers with an older eSIM type to update their profile after receiving a text message. The notice explains that the newer profile supports services such as VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling, and warns that an older profile may affect use of the mobile subscription abroad. This is an account-maintenance notice for affected customers, not a general instruction for every new visitor. If you already use a Føroya Tele eSIM and receive an update message, follow the operator’s current instructions and contact support if anything is unclear.
The details in this section were checked on 16 October 2026 against Føroya Tele’s consumer eSIM page, its current home page, and its dated eSIM-update notice. Conditions can change, so ask the provider to confirm your own eligibility and the current setup before departure.
Local eSIM or travel eSIM: choose by the job you need done
A local eSIM is part of a service issued by a provider in the Faroe Islands. Depending on the service, it may be associated with a local account and customer support. Føroya Tele confirms eSIM and request channels, but visitors should check eligibility and whether their service includes a number, voice or SMS.
A travel eSIM is arranged for use abroad and is often chosen for mobile data during a trip. Its destination coverage, network access and service features depend on the specific offer. Check that the Faroe Islands are explicitly included; a Europe or Denmark label alone does not establish that.
Before choosing, compare the practical setup: who issues the profile, whether you can obtain it online or in person, whether new visitors are eligible, and what the offer actually includes. This is not a ranking: a longer stay or need for a local number may call for different arrangements than a short data-focused trip. Do not assume that a prepaid visitor service and the operator’s eSIM can be combined unless Føroya Tele confirms it.
If you want to check a travel data option for the islands, view the eSIM destination page for the Faroe Islands. Check the displayed destination and terms before choosing; availability and conditions may change.
Coverage, radio technology and the landscape
Føroya Tele describes 4G and 5G services and publishes guidance about enabling 5G on supported phones. It notes that device-vendor approval affects network compatibility. This is not a guarantee that every eSIM-capable phone will connect to 5G or that 5G will be available at every stop.
The operator says its radio access network provides coverage on land and at sea and is shared with another local provider. This explains infrastructure, not reception at a specific beach, tunnel, mountain road or ferry crossing. The islands’ steep terrain and coastal routes make it sensible to plan for changing signal. Check any current coverage map or route-specific information and keep essential maps and reservations available offline.
A 4G or 5G indicator describes the phone’s current connection, not quality across an entire trip. Location, buildings, device bands, network conditions and service arrangements can all affect availability. Treat technology labels as compatibility information, not a performance promise.
Because the Faroe Islands have a distinct jurisdiction within the Kingdom of Denmark, verify the islands as a destination in your home roaming terms or travel eSIM offer. Do not infer inclusion from a Denmark or Europe label. The technology and infrastructure information above was checked on 16 October 2026 on Føroya Tele’s “5G,” “Eitt farnet í Føroyum” and equal access pages.
What to check before requesting a local eSIM
Use this checklist before relying on Føroya Tele’s local eSIM. The operator confirms the request routes, but some details for a new visitor require a direct answer.
- Eligibility: Ask whether a visiting new customer can open service, and what account details or identification are needed. Do not assume the advertised prepaid visitor service has the same eSIM availability.
- Request channel: The operator points customers to Mítt FT after sign-in or a Telebúðin store. Confirm that the online route works for you, or check the store’s location and opening information.
- Device: Check the exact model and regional version with the manufacturer and operator. A device must support eSIM and may need to be unlocked. Føroya Tele’s public list gives examples, not necessarily every current model.
- Installation and activation: Ask how the profile is delivered, whether you need Wi-Fi, and whether setup should happen before departure or after arrival. Installation and service start are not always the same step.
- Included service: Confirm whether your specific service includes data, a local number, voice, SMS and roaming. Do not infer features from the word eSIM.
- Other SIM line: If you keep your home SIM active, check which line handles data, calls and messages and review your home provider’s roaming terms.
- Support: Save contact details and setup instructions before travel in case you need help away from a reliable connection.
Existing customers should also check whether Føroya Tele has contacted them about an eSIM update. Its notice applies to customers who received a message, not every user by default. Follow the provider’s current instructions if the notice applies to you.
Installing a travel eSIM on your phone
Exact screens vary by phone, software and provider. Start with a reliable internet connection and use the instructions supplied for your eSIM. Do not delete a profile to troubleshoot unless the provider advises you; some profiles cannot be downloaded again after removal.
- Check compatibility. Confirm that your exact model supports eSIM and is unlocked. You can also check eSIM device compatibility.
- Prepare internet access. Use Wi-Fi if the profile needs an online download. Keep the QR code or setup details accessible during installation.
- Add the profile. In mobile or cellular settings, choose the option to add an eSIM, then scan the QR code or follow the provider’s manual instructions.
- Label the line. Give the profile a clear name so you can distinguish it from your primary SIM.
- Choose the data line. Select the eSIM for mobile data if that is the intended use. Review call and message settings separately.
- Follow roaming instructions. Some travel eSIMs require data roaming on that profile; others differ. Follow the provider’s directions and check your home line’s settings to avoid unintended roaming.
- Test the connection. When service is ready, check the selected data line and any provider-supplied APN instructions. Restarting may help; contact support if it still does not register.
For a local Føroya Tele eSIM, use the operator’s instructions rather than this general travel procedure. Its consumer page explains how to request a profile, while the update notice describes a separate process for existing customers who were contacted. If the instructions do not match your account, ask the provider before removing or changing the profile.
Kaspersky eSIM Store as a travel option
Kaspersky eSIM Store is an app and website that helps travellers choose, arrange and activate an eSIM plan for mobile data abroad. It is not a mobile operator, does not own a network and does not itself supply mobile internet. Connectivity depends on the selected offer and the underlying mobile service available at the destination.
A travel eSIM can be useful if you want to prepare before leaving, keep your physical SIM in the phone, or avoid finding an in-person sales point after arrival. For the Faroe Islands, check the named destination, network information and current terms. Confirm device compatibility and that the handset is unlocked. If an important detail is unclear, contact support before purchasing.
Travel eSIMs commonly focus on data. Do not expect a local number, ordinary voice calls or SMS unless the selected offer explicitly includes them. Internet messaging and calling apps can use data, subject to the connection and app settings. If you need regular calls or SMS for work, banking or local contacts, retain an appropriate primary line or confirm a local service that meets the need.
Preparing ahead lets you review compatibility, terms and setup steps before travel, but does not remove network or device limitations. The available networks for a travel eSIM may differ from those used by a local subscription. If access to a particular network or a local number is essential, ask the provider directly. Kaspersky’s public product announcement describes the service as a website and app for travellers to select and activate international eSIM plans; checked on 16 October 2026.
A simple decision path for visitors
- Need a local number or voice service? Ask Føroya Tele about eligibility and the features of the specific local service.
- Mainly need data for a short stay? Check whether a travel eSIM explicitly includes the Faroe Islands and review its activation steps.
- Cannot visit a shop? Ask whether the Mítt FT online request route is available to you as a new customer.
- Keeping your home number? Confirm roaming charges and decide which line handles data, calls and messages.
- Travelling outside towns or at sea? Prepare for reception changes and save essential travel information offline.
“eSIM available” only confirms a digital SIM format. It does not automatically confirm visitor eligibility, prepaid access, a phone number, coverage at every location or compatibility between separately advertised products.
Frequently asked questions
Can a tourist get a Føroya Tele eSIM?
The operator confirms consumer eSIM and says customers can request it through Mítt FT after sign-in or at a Telebúðin store. Its public page does not explain every new-customer case. Confirm visitor eligibility, required information, delivery and activation with Føroya Tele before travelling.
Is the prepaid visitor offer definitely an eSIM?
No such link is established by the public pages checked here. Føroya Tele advertises a visitor prepaid service and separately confirms consumer eSIM. Ask whether both are available together for your circumstances.
Does eSIM work on every phone, and is 5G guaranteed?
No. The exact phone model must support eSIM and be unlocked; regional variants can differ. Føroya Tele describes 5G service but does not guarantee it at every location or on every handset. Check device and route-specific coverage information.
Does a Denmark or Europe roaming offer include the Faroe Islands?
Do not assume so. Check that the Faroe Islands are explicitly included in your home operator’s terms or the travel eSIM offer.
Will a travel eSIM give me a Faroese number?
Not necessarily. Many are intended for data and do not include a traditional number, voice or SMS. Review the selected offer or ask the provider if those features matter.
What if a local eSIM does not install?
Use Føroya Tele’s instructions for your account type and contact its support over Wi-Fi or another connection. Do not delete the profile or reset the phone unless the provider advises it.
Before you set off
Føroya Tele confirms smartphone eSIM and identifies its account portal and a Telebúðin store as request channels. It also advertises a prepaid visitor service, but the public information checked here does not confirm that the visitor option is an eSIM. Confirm eligibility and the exact offer with the operator, check your phone and verify destination coverage for any travel service.
The Faroe Islands’ distinct jurisdiction and North Atlantic geography make destination-specific preparation important. Check the islands rather than relying on a Denmark or Europe label, and download essential travel information before heading to areas where reception may change.
If a travel eSIM suits your needs, review the Faroe Islands destination in Kaspersky eSIM Store and check current terms before choosing. Kaspersky eSIM Store helps users select and activate an eSIM plan for international mobile data; it is not affiliated with Føroya Tele and is not an operator or network provider. Føroya Tele is mentioned for information only; this article is not sponsored by or affiliated with the operator.
