Onic eSIM in Pakistan: what travelers should know

Onic and other product names belong to their respective owners. Kaspersky eSIM Store is not affiliated with Onic and is not its official partner or distributor.

A local mobile connection can help with maps, transport, bookings and messages during a visit to Pakistan. Onic is a digital telecom brand in Pakistan whose public website describes eSIM alongside a physical SIM. Its current availability for a new visitor needs careful checking: the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) reportedly ordered Onic’s parent company to stop issuing new SIMs and eSIMs, activating new connections, accepting subscriptions and conducting related commercial activity. Dawn and Business Recorder reported the order on 15 September 2026.

Onic’s public pages still describe its usual eSIM order and activation steps, while the regulatory update concerns new connections. As of 27 September 2026, do not assume a visitor can obtain a new Onic eSIM just because an online help page remains available. Confirm directly with Onic whether new issuance is currently permitted before relying on it for a trip. Reporting says existing customers would continue to receive service during a transition period; that does not establish availability for a new applicant.

This guide explains Onic’s published process, the checks a traveler should make and how a travel eSIM differs from a local line. It is not a promise that a new Onic connection can be activated today. ## Onic’s role in Pakistan

Onic presents itself as a digital telecom brand serving customers in Pakistan. Its website identifies it as a digital brand of Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), and its support centre says service is available wherever the underlying network is available. The app and website form part of the ordinary sign-up and account process. A local Onic eSIM is associated with a Pakistan mobile account, local identity checks and the domestic network environment. It may suit someone who needs a local line, provided registration is available and that person meets the operator’s requirements. A travel eSIM is arranged for connectivity in a destination or region and often focuses on mobile data. It may be a more direct fit when the traveler mainly needs maps, messaging or online bookings and does not need a local phone number. Check the current conditions of either option before choosing.

Is Onic eSIM available to a new visitor?

Onic’s official website and help centre confirm that it has offered eSIM. Its order guide lets a customer select eSIM or a physical SIM, and its QR-code support article says the code is available in the app and sent to the registered email after verification and activation. Those pages document an established process, but do not settle whether new orders can proceed under the latest regulatory direction.

Onic’s public onboarding pages still show the usual order journey. Separately, Dawn and Business Recorder reported on 15 September 2026 that the PTA had directed PTML to stop new Onic SIM and eSIM issuance, activations and subscriptions. A functioning order page is not confirmation that new service is being issued. As of 27 September 2026, no current public confirmation was found that Onic can issue an eSIM to a new traveler under this order. Ask Onic directly whether new registration is permitted before relying on it for a trip.

Onic describes its general service as prepaid. This means payment in advance rather than a conventional postpaid bill; it does not guarantee that a new order is available or suitable for a short visit. The public pages reviewed do not confirm a separate tourist eSIM offer. One support article says a CNIC is required for standard identity verification, but does not explain every foreign-national case. Visitors should ask whether their documents are accepted and whether biometric verification must be completed in person.

What Onic’s published eSIM process involves

Onic’s public instructions describe an online application followed by identity verification and activation. Because new issuance may be affected by the reported PTA order, first confirm that Onic is accepting new connections. If it is, the published process indicates that a customer selects eSIM in the app or website, provides the requested details, completes the operator’s verification and follows the activation steps. Onic says the QR code is available through the app and registered email after the required steps.

Before applying, ask whether your identity documents are acceptable, whether biometric verification is required at an Onic location and whether a short-term visitor can register. Check the exact handset model and unlock status. The published ordering flow also describes number selection or, in some cases, number transfer. A traveler who only needs data does not need to transfer a number; a transfer may affect access to account verification messages, so do not start one without understanding the consequences.

Install a QR profile over a reliable internet connection and keep the operator’s email available. If the same phone must scan its own QR code, use another screen or a setup method Onic provides. Avoid deleting an installed profile unless support confirms that it can be restored. Installation alone does not confirm activation or network access; check the line status and use an official support channel if it does not connect.

Phone compatibility and device registration

An eSIM is a digital SIM profile stored in a compatible device. Support depends on the exact model and sometimes the region where the handset was sold. Check the manufacturer’s specifications for your model number, look for an EID or an “Add eSIM” option in settings, and confirm that the phone is unlocked. These checks confirm device capability, not current Onic order availability.

On iPhone, look in Settings, then General, then About for an EID and check cellular settings for an add-eSIM option. Android menu labels differ; check Network & internet, Connections or SIM manager, and the manufacturer’s current support guidance. Pakistan also has a registration framework for imported phones. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), describing a temporary registration facility developed with PTA and the Federal Investigation Agency, says eligible overseas Pakistanis and foreign visitors may need passport details, arrival and departure dates, a SIM in their name and device IMEI information. The facility applies to one handset and has conditions. Review current government instructions for your situation; installing an eSIM does not itself complete separate device registration. ## Coverage and mobile technologies

Onic’s support centre says its service operates under PTML and follows the coverage available from the underlying network. Its public materials describe 4G in cities and towns. The Onic 5G FAQ describes service in selected locations in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Rawalpindi. These are published coverage descriptions, not guarantees of reception at every address or along every route.

Coverage can vary indoors, between buildings, across terrain and while travelling. Use the operator’s current map to check the places that matter, but treat it as a planning reference. Onic says a 5G-compatible handset must also be in a covered location. Do not infer nationwide 5G availability or a particular speed from the technology listing. Download offline maps and booking details if you will depend on connectivity. A domestic Onic connection should not be treated as a multi-country travel profile; ask about roaming separately if you expect to use it outside Pakistan.

Local service and travel eSIMs

Onic’s published process is built around a domestic mobile account, identity checks and local network access. A travel eSIM is arranged for use in a destination or region and may be installed before departure. A local line may matter when you need a Pakistan number, if registration is available to you. A travel eSIM can suit a visitor who mainly needs mobile data for maps, messaging and bookings. Check the current service area, compatibility, activation conditions and support instructions for the specific option.

Many travel eSIMs are designed for data and should not be assumed to provide a local voice number, ordinary calls or SMS. Verify those features directly if you need them, and keep another way to receive account codes. Kaspersky eSIM Store is an app and website where travelers can choose, arrange and activate an eSIM plan for mobile internet abroad. It is not a mobile operator, does not own a Pakistani network and does not itself provide radio coverage. Check destination availability and product conditions before purchase. View Pakistan eSIM options.

Installing a travel eSIM

If you choose a travel eSIM, check device compatibility and unlock status, then read when installation should take place and what event starts service. Instructions differ by provider. Use the QR code or manual setup details supplied with the eSIM; keep your primary line available if needed for calls or verification messages. You can follow the Android installation guide or iPhone installation guide and check the device compatibility guide.

On arrival, select the intended data line and enable data roaming for that line only if its instructions require it. If it does not connect, check that airplane mode is off, the eSIM is active and selected for data, then contact support over Wi-Fi. Avoid deleting a profile or sharing QR codes publicly.

Planning around Onic’s current status

The PTA order reported in September concerns new Onic connections. Dawn reported that existing customers would continue receiving service, while Business Recorder described a transition arrangement for existing subscribers. That is different from a new traveler applying for an eSIM. Onic’s help pages explain its usual process, but do not establish that it can accept new registrations while the order is in effect.

Before choosing Onic as your arrival connection, ask its official support channel whether it may issue and activate a new eSIM; whether short-term visitors can apply and which documents are accepted; whether biometric verification is required in person; and what happens to an order if the application cannot proceed. Save the date and response. If Onic cannot confirm availability for you, arrange another connection rather than depending on an unverified application for airport navigation or time-sensitive plans.

Common traveler situations

Frequently asked questions

Can a tourist get a new Onic eSIM in Pakistan?

Onic’s public pages describe an eSIM process, but reports on a PTA order dated 11 September 2026 say new Onic SIM and eSIM issuance and activations were to stop. As of 27 September 2026, confirm directly with Onic before applying. Online help pages are not proof that a new visitor registration is available.

Does Onic have a tourist-specific eSIM?

The public materials reviewed describe general eSIM and prepaid service, but do not confirm a separate tourist offer. Onic’s support information refers to CNIC verification for its standard purchase process. Ask whether your documents and customer category are accepted.

How does Onic eSIM activation work?

Onic’s published instructions describe identity verification, activation through its app or website and QR-code delivery through the app and registered email. Requirements can change, and new orders may be affected by the reported order. Confirm the current process with Onic.

Will my phone work with Onic eSIM?

The exact handset variant must support eSIM and be unlocked for another provider. Check the manufacturer’s specifications and look for an EID or add-eSIM option. Separately review any Pakistan device-registration requirement that applies to your phone.

Is Onic 5G available throughout Pakistan?

No. Onic’s 5G FAQ describes service in selected locations in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Rawalpindi. A compatible handset must also be in a covered area; 4G may be used elsewhere.

Is Kaspersky eSIM Store a local Pakistani operator?

No. Kaspersky eSIM Store is an app and website for choosing, arranging and activating an eSIM plan for mobile internet abroad. It is not a local operator or network provider and should not be assumed to supply a Pakistan number, ordinary calls or SMS.

A practical choice for your trip

Onic has published an eSIM ordering and QR activation process for Pakistan, and its support materials describe prepaid service and local network coverage. However, the PTA order reported in September 2026 affects new connections. Confirm with Onic whether new eSIM issuance is currently allowed, whether a visitor can complete identity verification and whether an in-person biometric step applies. Check your exact phone model and any device-registration rules for a visiting handset.

If you need a local number, get explicit confirmation that Onic can issue a new account to you. If you mainly need data for a temporary visit, consider a travel eSIM as a separate option and review its coverage, activation and compatibility conditions. Kaspersky eSIM Store is an app and website for choosing, arranging and activating an eSIM plan for mobile internet abroad; it is not an operator or network provider. You can review Pakistan travel eSIM options and check current conditions before departure.

Information checked on 27 September 2026. Operator processes, regulatory decisions, coverage and device requirements may change. Verify current conditions with Onic and the relevant public authorities before relying on them.
