Telenor eSIM in Denmark: setup, coverage and travel checks

Last checked: 2 November 2026. Telenor and the names of its services belong to their respective rights holders. Kaspersky eSIM Store is not affiliated with Telenor and is not its official partner or distributor.

If you are travelling to Denmark, an eSIM can replace a physical SIM tied to a Telenor subscription, or provide travel data separately. Telenor Denmark documents the first option for eligible customers, but not a standalone tourist product. Decide whether you need a Danish subscription and number or simply data for the visit.

This guide explains Telenor eSIM, device checks and travel setup. Confirm current eligibility and account steps with Telenor.

Telenor’s role in the Danish mobile market

Telenor Denmark is the local business of the wider Telenor Group. The group’s Telenor Denmark profile describes it as a major mobile and fixed broadband provider in the Danish market. Figures on that profile refer to the end of 2024, so they are dated context rather than a live market ranking. Telenor’s presence in Denmark does not mean every product is available to short-term visitors.

Telenor’s Danish customer pages describe eSIM as a digital SIM option connected with an existing mobile subscription. The consumer help article “All about the digital SIM card eSIM,” checked on 2 November 2026, explains ordering through Mit Telenor and activation with a QR code or instructions sent to the customer. The page also describes using eSIM alongside a physical SIM on a compatible phone. These are subscription-management features; they should not be read as proof of a walk-in tourist offer or an anonymous data-only service.

Telenor also documents eSIM for compatible smartwatches linked to a mobile subscription through its Smartnummer service. This is separate from a travel data profile on a phone; check the watch and account requirements for the exact device.

Is Telenor eSIM available to visitors?

Telenor’s eSIM help material confirms that the operator supports eSIM for eligible subscriptions. It describes ordering or replacing an eSIM through the customer’s account and activating it on a compatible device. It does not present a separate visitor eSIM that can be purchased independently of a Telenor subscription. The public Telenor pages checked for this article also did not confirm a standalone prepaid or tourist eSIM for short-term visitors.

That distinction matters if you are arriving from abroad. A Telenor eSIM may be relevant if you already hold an eligible Telenor subscription, are moving an existing Telenor number to eSIM, or are an existing customer replacing a SIM. If you do not have such an account, ask Telenor directly whether you can become a customer under your circumstances, what identification or payment details are required, and whether the service is available to someone without a Danish address. Do not assume that an eSIM profile alone includes a number, data, or permission to register for a subscription.

Check your phone before arranging an eSIM

An eSIM has to be supported by both the device and the service. A phone can be sold in different hardware variants across countries, and two devices with the same retail family name may not have identical SIM capabilities. Do not rely on a model name copied from another region or on the fact that a phone has a dual-SIM setting. Check the exact model number and regional variant with the phone maker, then confirm that the device is unlocked and can use an eSIM profile.

Telenor’s eSIM support page suggests dialling *#06# and checking whether an EID appears. That is a useful device-level indication that eSIM hardware is present, but it does not guarantee that every operator feature, subscription, software version, or regional variant will work. The operator may have separate requirements for a particular service. Check both Telenor’s current guidance and the device maker’s specifications before you make a change to your main SIM. Use the model code from device settings or the original packaging when checking; a retail family name may cover several configurations.

Keep in mind these separate checks:

  • Device: confirm eSIM support for the exact regional variant and that it is not carrier-locked. An EID is a useful signal, not a full compatibility guarantee.
  • Telenor account: confirm subscription eligibility and that you can sign in and complete any required verification.
  • Travel eSIM: check its own device list, destination coverage and activation terms.

For help checking device compatibility with a travel eSIM, see eSIM device compatibility. The result is not a substitute for Telenor’s eligibility check for its own subscription-based eSIM.

How Telenor eSIM setup works

Telenor’s Danish customer help page describes two typical account flows: order an eSIM for an eligible subscription through Mit Telenor, then follow the activation instructions; or replace a physical SIM using the operator’s supported SIM Transfer feature on eligible Apple devices. Telenor may update its menus and requirements, so treat the steps below as a preparation guide and follow the current instructions shown in your account.

Option 1: use the QR code or account instructions

  1. Confirm eSIM eligibility for the subscription and device.
  2. Connect to Wi-Fi and sign in to Mit Telenor using the account verification method offered.
  3. Follow the current account instructions: scan the QR code from another screen or use an in-app option if offered.
  4. Wait for installation to finish, keep the confirmation and recovery details, then select the intended line and check roaming settings.

Telenor notes that an activation QR code may be single-use. If it fails or has already been used, check Mit Telenor or contact the operator for recovery rather than repeatedly scanning it or deleting a working profile. Check the subscription terms for when service begins.

Option 2: convert or transfer an eligible SIM on Apple devices

Telenor’s “SIM Transfer” support page, checked on 2 November 2026, describes converting or moving an eligible line through iPhone or iPad settings. It requires an eSIM-capable device and current software, and account settings can block the feature. The old SIM is deactivated when a transfer completes. Confirm current model requirements before starting, and avoid doing this just before you need the number for travel or account verification.

Before you leave home

  • Confirm account access and keep activation and recovery instructions private and available offline.
  • Select the intended data profile if you use a travel eSIM too. Do not remove a working profile without checking how to reinstall it.

If you are already in Denmark, Telenor’s help page says eSIM can be activated while abroad, but successful activation still depends on account access, the device, and the instructions for that subscription. A working Wi-Fi connection can help with initial setup. Do not wait until you have no connectivity to recover an account or request a replacement code.

Coverage and mobile technologies

Telenor’s Danish coverage map lets users inspect address-level voice and data layers, including 4G and 5G. Telenor marks the data as last updated in September 2026; the map was checked on 2 November 2026. A map layer is not a guarantee of service at every indoor location, and coverage can vary with the place, building and device.

Telenor’s published mobile-service terms identify 2G, 4G and 5G technologies. Its Danish history page says that it shut down 3G in Denmark. For a traveller, the practical point is to use a phone that supports the networks available for the service and to check any device-specific voice requirements with the operator. An eSIM is a way of storing a subscriber profile; it does not itself expand radio coverage or determine whether a handset supports a particular band or network feature.

If connectivity matters at a specific hotel, station, ferry terminal, rural address, or indoor venue, check Telenor’s coverage map for that place and ask the accommodation or venue about available Wi-Fi as a backup. A nationwide view cannot tell you the signal quality in every room or carriage. The map is a planning aid, not a promise of uninterrupted service or a comparison with other providers.

Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands are not interchangeable destinations

The destination in this article is Denmark proper. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark’s “Greenland and The Faroe Islands” page, checked on 2 November 2026, describes both as parts of the Kingdom with extensive self-government. Their separate geography means a Denmark destination entry or domestic coverage map should not automatically be read as coverage there.

If your route includes either territory, verify the exact destination and roaming conditions separately with Telenor and any travel eSIM provider. A profile that works in Copenhagen does not prove it will work elsewhere in the Kingdom.

For visitors who only need mobile internet, a travel eSIM is a different route. It is designed around a destination or travel region and generally does not replace a home number. Review its actual destination coverage and data conditions before purchase, and keep your usual SIM active if you need calls or texts on your regular number. You can browse current eSIM options for Denmark in Kaspersky eSIM Store. This page is a destination catalogue; it is not a Telenor tariff page and does not establish that any particular travel eSIM uses Telenor’s network.

Telenor subscription eSIM or travel eSIM?

A Telenor eSIM manages an eligible Telenor subscription in digital form, such as when an existing customer replaces a physical SIM. The subscription sets its service and roaming conditions. A travel eSIM instead gives a visitor a way to arrange mobile data for a destination without first opening a Telenor account. Kaspersky eSIM Store is an app and website for choosing, arranging and activating a travel eSIM; it is not an operator, network owner or mobile internet provider. Conditions depend on the selected offer.

Think through the following before choosing:

Question Telenor subscription eSIM Travel eSIM
Do you already have the associated account? Usually relevant; confirm that your subscription is eligible. Not generally a Telenor account requirement; follow the selected service’s purchase steps.
Do you need to keep your regular number? The eSIM is connected to the Telenor subscription and number. A data-focused travel eSIM generally does not replace your usual number; confirm the exact offer.
What should you check first? Account access, device eligibility, activation method and roaming terms. Country coverage, device compatibility, activation timing and the plan’s data conditions.
Who can answer service questions? Telenor for its subscription and profile. Kaspersky eSIM Store support for purchase and setup questions; the underlying service terms govern use.

These are broad distinctions, not universal features. Review the conditions for your own subscription or travel eSIM. If you keep your home SIM active for calls or verification messages, select the travel line for data and check your home carrier’s roaming policy.

Common questions

Can I buy Telenor eSIM at the airport as a tourist?

Telenor’s public guidance covers eligible subscriptions and account-based activation; it does not confirm a standalone tourist eSIM. Ask Telenor about eligibility, or consider a travel eSIM listing Denmark.

Can I activate an existing Telenor eSIM outside Denmark?

Telenor says activation abroad is possible, subject to device compatibility, account access and the subscription terms. Check Mit Telenor before departure, especially for a replacement profile.

Does a Telenor eSIM work in every phone with eSIM hardware?

No. Check the exact regional model, software, unlock status and subscription eligibility with Telenor and the manufacturer. An EID alone is not a guarantee.

Will a Telenor eSIM include data, calls and SMS?

The eSIM profile is tied to a subscription; its terms determine included services and roaming. Check your account rather than assuming any specific allowance.

Can I use a Telenor eSIM and another eSIM together?

Some devices support multiple profiles, subject to handset and service limits. Choose the data line and check home-SIM roaming terms.

Is Denmark coverage the same as Greenland or the Faroe Islands?

No. Verify the exact territory and roaming terms separately with each provider.

What to check before you choose

If you are a Telenor customer, confirm account eligibility, device support, the activation or transfer process, coverage at your destinations and roaming terms. If you do not have a Telenor subscription, ask about eligibility before relying on this option. For a data-only visit, a travel eSIM may suit your needs if device compatibility and destination coverage match your itinerary. In Kaspersky eSIM Store, browse eSIM options for Denmark and check the selected option’s conditions. This destination page is not a Telenor tariff or service.

Telenor’s eSIM, SIM Transfer and customer support pages, the Telenor Denmark profile on Telenor Group’s website, its Denmark coverage map and published mobile-service terms were checked on 2 November 2026. The coverage map identifies its data as last updated in September 2026; market figures on Telenor Group’s company profile refer to the end of 2024. Availability, account eligibility, device support, coverage layers and service conditions can change. Confirm them with Telenor before ordering or making travel arrangements.
